Transformation begins the moment
you forgive yourself and emerge
from the shadows liberated by the light.
I spent that morning on the side of the road
waiting for the flat-bed tow truck to arrive and save me.
I saw the sun rise, and people emerge from their cocoons
to begin their day. We exchanged banter without speaking,
watching each other's morning struggles.
I changed my clothes three times that day
trying to understand who I was meant to be.
