Hidden Warehouses

by Mark Strohschein

three deer silently sweep through

the neighbor’s yard right after sunrise

half a moon sings yellow notes but is

curtained by clouds in seconds

a single blue button remains on

the sky’s spacious silver sweater

inside my blood courses my breathing

slows my sinews seething in strength

like all the simple silent things

that could go unnoticed

that labor in nature’s

hidden warehouses

that in actuality

sustain us

that store more

than we can ever ask for
