Meet Me in the Afterglow
by Grace Elaine
Art: Anton Mandych
dew drops on fire lilies, blooming
in the last of the summer’s heat. my
heart beats next to yours as i watch
the droplet splash against the wild
green grass. you laugh that beautiful
laugh - the one that sets my chest
on fire, the one that made me fall
in love - and the sun shines down,
drying the dew, making you sweat,
painting you golden. you say gold
is my color, but i think it makes you
look divine. gold sunlight on dark
skin, orange flowers in dark grass,
your goodness and the skeletons
hidden deep in my closet. the sun
kisses the horizon, and i know we
will reach the dawn.
